Sundry Items

Although there were times when everyone in the family worked on the house, there was the everyday business to attend to. The "real job," commuting,  homeschooling, cooking, "house" cleaning, and just plain living had to be done during the day.

Do you see what I see?

Even a toddler can do some housework, and often more enthusiastically than the rest of us! (I really appreciated the light-weight build-in RV vacuum system too...)

I was often sent to town to find things, and pictures like this were texted to me so that I would know what in the world I was looking for. No matter the detail, I often still brought home the wrong item. Returns to Lowes became a Sunday Afternoon tradition.

We all felt like this, at one time or another.

Sometimes Lego people invaded the building site, when Daddy was an hour away at work.

Lego features largely in our family, not matter how small our living situation. At one time I got to wondering if Lego could solve some planning problems... sort of a hands-on version of Sketch-Up.

Jig

I can't remember what all this is, but I did learn to appreciate homemade "jigs"  throughout this house building process. Here a clamp on the whatchamacallit is holding a somethin'-or-other, and that is all powered by a drill below the table.

(I just caught one of the builders walking by as I was writing-- who told me it was basically a home-made planer)

Once it is on and running, it cuts out exactly what needs cutting, or shaves down exactly the shape that needs shaving, etc.
It was needed to get to the next project-- a front door!

All Work and No Play...

I can't have dull boys named jack around, can I? We sometimes took off to explore on fine afternoons. House construction and digging in the mud needed to be balanced with some rest and recreation!

Sometimes that rest consisted of a Sunday drive after church, wending our way home past some of the local attractions.

Everyone's Favorite Job

I hope everyone knows I'm being a little sarcastic with that title! As you can deduce from the last few posts, that particular month was full of not so happy memories...

Plumbing and leaks and pipe replacements... oh the joy!

(Easy for me to say... up on the deck, out of the muck, taking pictures)

Of all the things we could go back and tell ourselves, "HIRE A PLUMBER" would top the list!
