The Lawman's Daughter

My daughter has published her first novel, a wild west adventure in 1890's Montana!

"Meet Maryan, the daughter of a legendary sheriff and a young woman who struggles with discontentment, bitterness, and a frustrating load of everything else. Well, maybe not everything. But one thing's for sure, it can feel like everything is a struggle when you're a teen... ...When the curtain opens, envy, frustration and a load of kitchen work during a heatwave have left Maryan feeling less than sweet.... After an unfortunate introduction sets Maryan and Alan, her father's new deputy, off on the wrong foot, Maryan must try to navigate the most awkward set of situations she's ever placed herself in. ...But if she thought that was what life going wrong looks like, she's in for a big surprise. Is it possible for Alan and Maryan to find out each other's good qualities under immense pressure? Alan. He's got problems of his own. He's not exactly happily accepted in town - but that seems like the least of his worries when things start to turn serious. Arson. Robbery...Does right always triumph over wrong? Meanwhile, a mystery is brewing that Alan and Maryan never expected..." Read the rest here.

If you like Christian fiction such as Janette Oke, combined with wild west adventures like Gunsmoke, then this is the story for you! It is a western romance/mystery and you are guaranteed to get Maryan and Alan stuck in your head for weeks!

Sisters Quilt Show 2025: About Town

A few more quilts close-up and a bit of flavor of walking around Sisters. I hope you enjoyed what has become the "annual post week" here... See you next year?

I love a good sampler! I still haven't made one yet but I have one on paper. Maybe it will get a start this year.

Sisters Quilt Show 2025: Interesting, Unusual and Art Quilts

This was the raffle quilt for this year, and I believe it may be a re-imagined version of the one below.

Painting with fabric and thread. Close-up below:

Why not.

Pebbles

This could be a portrait of my sewing corner floor when I am in the middle of a project! Maybe I should just sew all those strings up into a quilt.

This was displayed in a place that is usually very crowded, and I wish I had a better picture to show you. At least the sun highlighted the quilting. I spy California and Nevada, and the California Poppy!

This one was of a pattern like last year's butterfly,
These kinds of quilts amaze me.

Sisters Quilt Show 2025: Red, White, and Blue

Blue-and-white always catches my eye. But this red one was extra-eye catching. I'm not sure I even like it, but it was fascinating

Sisters Quilt Show 2025: Rainbow Pop

One of the themes I noticed at the quilt show were these high-contrast quilts with rainbowy colors.

This one isn't as bright or modern, but it has that country appeal that goes back to the era that I started getting interested in quilting. Back when the quilt magazines had newsprint pages and very few color photos, and you had to use a lot of imagination. (Just a side note-- I was really young, okay!)

This isn't quite the contrast, more creams and "low volume" in the background, but we loved the bright birds. Can you see the hummingbirds in the quilt at left?

Sisters Quilt Show 2025: Log Cabins

It seems that this is all the blog is about now, ha!

I don't know why but something seemed to be missing from the quilt show this year. In comparing notes with another acquaintance (who was there in different places than I), we both felt the same way about it even down to taking fewer photos. And it was the 50th anniversary of the show. I just didn't feel the same overwhelming inspiration, but of course it was not the quilt's fault because every quilt is worth seeing! I thought maybe it was because accompanied by two young boys this year instead of my usual quilt-interested companions, and although they were willing, I felt a bit rushed. It got hot early and I wanted to get them through it before they melted.

"I liked it, but I did feel like a cooked noodle," the youngest told me.

This seemed to be the Year of the Log Cabin.  I didn't get closer to the wall but it looks like the quilt shop was covered in log cabin variations.

I tried to up the contrast on this one-- we were there early in the morning which is a good time for strong shadows! This is very "Northwest" and I hope you can see the mountain in the middle.

We met the maker of this one which was neat because we got to hear the story about it-- she had fun animals hidden in the quilting which she challenged folks to find!
Log Cabin with Baptist Fan quilting
This one should go under the next category-- that of bright rainbow quilts, which was a secondary theme I noticed. See next post!
