Railings

I need to hurry up and finish this series, because I have some brand new developments to show you as of this week! But all things in order, so on with the story...

First, a couple photos to cool you down.

Yes, we were in winter-time construction again, but at least we were inside the house working. Amidst discussions and research on countertops, we had an exciting new development!

Bye Bye, OSB sheets. Hello "proper" railings!
Although it is the "temporary" structure, and made with some scrap, I am very happy with it.
The first few steps are one of our crazy ideas: we have the widest step at the bottom, with each step up slightly narrower until the long flight up the wall. This makes for some interesting carpentry problems. Every solution had to be researched in the building code.

Staircases are pretty important, and have some finicky measurements and important rules. From newell post heights to how many inches your last riser is from the top floor, there are very good regulations for safety and ease of use. Our temporary stair would cause the inspector some head-scratching, but everything we did was in the code.

Helping.
Now I had some new views and perspectives!

The under-stairs are a creative opportunity. The original idea was to put a long drawer to hold shoes. It has turned out a bit short for that, but we will see what it will become.

The last idea we had for the "finish" railing is some kind of wrought iron design. That is still pretty far down the list of replacements. This wooden one had to be up for safety and to get that much-sought-after occupancy certificate, and I am content.
